Bascially, another o/s. Text editor, web browser, chat client, news
reader, mail client, games, etc. :)

I use emacs on one of my computers, mostly just for email though as
I really do like gnus. I've tried using w3m, zen (think it's zen for
chat) and they're ok...just not for me though.

Much easier to start it than it is to configure .emacs and .gnus :)
There is a lot of documentation on the web about emacs though, so
it's not *so* bad...IMHO it is a lot of work to become good with it.
I'd second the suggestion of nano. I use vim most of the time, but
every now and then it's nice to see a pico clone.
