No. The partition was not mounted. I repeat: it's NEVER mounted. `mount`
didn't list the partition. `umount` said it's not mounted.

If I booted into that root partition using `init=/bin/bash` at grub
prompt, then tried to mount the partition, mount would report
"Segmentation Fault".
