David, I have a lot of respect for you, but have you ever tried
explaining how DNS works to young engineers, lay people, managers? Their
eyes glaze over within seconds of the explanation, and you realize very
quickly that you've lost them. Last year, I was trying to explain to the
admin of an ISP in China why and how to add a PTR record, and in the end
I just gave up. It was like explaining some obscure part of theology,
and just as relevant (or so they think). The managers are worse, and
they tend to think that you are being condescending.
Anyway, having had to babysit two nieces (8 and 9 years old) recently,
I've learned the value of dumbing down. "Yes, Virginia, there are little
people inside the computer that make the lights blink and the screen
show pretty pictures..."
