Firefox running up CPU

Mepis now uses Ubuntu sources, which is what I am using.  Maybe I should try 
the "official" build.  Is that what you are going to suggest?
I ran it from a term window to see if anything interesting is going on when it 
happens, but nothing shows.  It happens even if I just have it minimized and 
not surfing.
