Is dmraid something new, or did you just mis-type md raid, as in mdadm?

I've been using mdadm & md raid 1 for over a year now without any problems. I 
understand that with older versions it was necessary to write your raid 
specifications in a file (/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf) but that no longer is 
necessary with the current version--just flag your partitions as md 
partitions & then configure your raid devices. The file still is useful if 
you have problems, though. Check out
