host protected area question

Anyone here have any SATA or SCSI disks which have/had a host protected
area (HPA) on them?

I've run into an annoying problem at work, and after grepping through
the 2.6.x kernel source, it looks like only IDE drives under linux will
have their HPA respected. Specifically, ide-disk.c has a function
idedisk_check_hpa, however there doesn't seem to be anything similar to
that for SCSI/SATA drives.

So, if you've got a SCSI or SATA drive that has/had an HPA that Linux
recognized, please let me know what kind of controller you were using,
and perhaps that will give me a clue as to where this functionality is
buried in the kernel source.

thanks!
