I've heard that the Samsung CLP-550 series printers are good for
small office use. The standard model has parallel and USB input
while the CLP-500N is available with network and/or wireless.
The web pages I checked on the network ready version said they
support SuSE Linux, Mac OS X, etc., etc. so we're not looking at
a brain-dead Windows-only printer. These printers come with
duplex (double sided) printing standard. The price seems to be
in the $600->$800USD range with the network capable printers more
expensive.
Personally I much prefer network printers as they're generally
more flexible, and can be put where it's convenient, not limited
by the length of the parallel or USB cables.
I've been using an HP 4M Plus with duplex for almost ten years
now with an HP Photosmart for the occassional color job. One
advantage of the HP splatjet printers is that they seem to be
designed so the printer nozzles don't clog at very low usage
levels. I probably print on the Photosmart two or three times a
month, and have never had a clogging problem with it.
