YOu merant to compile a rpm and convert it into deb? hmm... I would 
choose to learn the deb way. I want to follow the rules file of those 
ubuntu deb and build the latest and greatest binaries from tarball.

Not even the unstable repositories has binaries from latest source (like 
samba-3.0.20, openssl-9.8, ...)
