Yes. I'm pretty sure that MySQL has had transactions since version 4.0.
We are using postgresql though because it is a far more mature product that
MySQL and doesn't have the somewhat wierd licensing of MySQL (and see
innodb comments below)
On the other hand, MySQL is frequently used in web applications because
it's light weight and fast.
And on yet another hand, I tend to avoid x.0 releases as they frequently
have more bugs than later releases in the same version.

I think that's a bit harsh considering (a) the number of sites
using MySQL, and (b) it has had orders of magnitude fewer security
problems that Windows.
