netlink in 2.6.14?

It seems that CONFIG_NETLINK went bye in 2.6.14 .. however, udev 074 REQUIRES 
netlink in the kernel.. so.. can anyone here tell me wtf needs to be turned 
on in the kernel to make sure netlink is available for udev?
