Those of you in the US who would like to play DVD's on your Linux box, listen up. Those of you who already do (illegally in the US) need to take action.
If you simply want to back up your DVD's and CD's, or would like to store a copy on a Multimedia PC, this is about you too...
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) has been wreaking havoc on consumers' fair use rights for the past seven years. Now Congress is considering the Digital Media Consumers' Rights Act (DMCRA, HR 1201), a bill that would reform part of the DMCA and formally protect the "Betamax defense" relied on by so many innovators. I just sent a free fax and email to support this bill.
