I actually have to turn off USB2 support on some machines because
their USB2 hardware can't handle the sustained throughput over an hour
or so.

This simply involves removing the EHCI module ("ehci_hcd").  That
seems to be the big difference between a Linux box running USB2 or
not.  Of course, the hardware on the box needs to support it.
