That was what kept my interest in Libranet when I installed Lib 1.9.0;
that was my impression too.
Try recompiling the kernel; you can, for example, configure the kernel
for your specific CPU rather than the default.
Once you do a Libranet kernel recompile using Adminmenu, you will see
one big reason Libranet has a loyal following.
(I'm sure Ken Moffat will be along shortly with more to say on the
subject :-) )
