All my MBs here have the VIA (KM266/KT400) Chipset on them. Three of
the MBs are made by MSI. The KM2M MB is the one that has given me
nothing but grief. Tried to replace it with an MB made by Gigabyte (VIA
chipset) and it had its own problems. All the new systems at work have
nForce chipsets and none of them displayed any probs in setting up. All
the USB ports, firewire and sound work as they should (linux). Server is
running RH and the rest dual boot Win2000 pro/SuSe. Two of the new units
started off with VIA chipsets and displayed several glitches. They were
replaced by nForce chipset MB's and things just work. I've always been
relatively pleased with VIA until now. I've received no help from MSI in
resolving the USB issue. Log files show that the USB irq seems to be
hard-wired to the wrong io. Perhaps I should be dumping MSI and try an
MB made by SOYO.
Cheers.
