kdeinit issues

When trying to run Konq to browse my files, it opens fine, shows the
contents of /home/harry, but if I try to open any folder, I get:

KDEInit could not launch '/home/harry/whateverfile'

It doesn't matter what folder I choose.  The permissions on the folder
seem OK.  I checked /usr/bin/kdeinit, and it is set to "root" for both
the owner and the group.  (Konq works fine under root, by the way).  Is
this setting correct or is there another area to check?
