They prolly did this because right now no OS is stable with 4 or more GB
of RAM using a native 64bit OS with dual CPUs. Its an unholy nightmare of
kernel panics and IOMMU related lockups. Until mobo vendors & the linux
kernel clean up their act between BIOS & ACPI tables, doing 64bit SMP with
4+ GB RAM is nothing other than an experimental configuration.
I'm saying all this from first hand experience. These days, about 25% of
my work day is spent dealing with this mess.
