Bold type (was converting VHS to digital)

Wait a minute:  I am using Thunderbird (on the Mac) and have it set up 
to "view message body as plain text" and character encoding as Western 
ISO 8859-1, and "convert message to plain text".  What is it coming out 
at your end?
