scsi errors the saga continues...

Going back to the SCSI parity error problem that turned out to be a kernel
bug problem on FC3 from a couple weeks back...

I finally had time to build my own 2.6.10 kernel booted from Knoppix.
Unfortunately, that didn't work because the actual bug here is the
interaction between the haldaemon and the kernel for the symbios 53c895
controller.

It also didn't work due to me using an older version of knoppix that had
versions of binutils and gcc that created modules that weren't kosher in
FC3 (bad magic or something along those lines). So that kernel boooted,
but i got the same evil SCSI parity error as soon as the haldaemon kicked
in, and no modules loaded.

I ended up killing the haldaemon in the boot process, and that seems like
a workaround. So all of this work when all i needed to do was:
rm -f /etc/rc3.d/S78haldaemon;reboot

Apparently the haldaemon is needed for detecting hardware events, like
plugging in USB & Firewire stuff, but i don't use either on this box, so i
should be ok. I'm still waiting for Fedora/RH to fix the haldaemon, but
for now i've got this box working again on a 2.6.10 kernel.
