Simple C question

I have a program written in C that I wrote long, long ago in the other 
operating system.

The only thing it needs to bring it over to Linux is a call to get the current 
date and time.

I've dug through man files etc looking for the proper call but haven't found 
anything.  Would like to get it in character form if possible.

Could someone hit me with a clue-stick on this one?
