centralized mail address data

I am setting up a small business and need to have our email/address 
database available to people at various locations, some at a distance of 
several miles. Is LDAP what i need to provide a database like this?

I'd like us all to be able to enter customer data locally but have it 
upload and synchronize with a global base of such information.
