is there a mail app that does this?

greets!

many of my fellow greybeards will remember the old days of fido and rime
and of .qwk packets and of the wonderful little mail programs that were
used to read and respond -- they really were sophisticated, clever
applications, and it saddens me that much of their philosophy appears
to have been lost in our current mail programs.

i am in search, now, of a mail program -- or an add-on for kmail or some
such; i'd like to not lose my existing mail archive or keep a second
mailer solely to be able to look at it -- which replicates one of the
features of those old mailers: the ability to select from a file or
directory containing oodles of them, at random a sig file or tagline.

it is inconceivable that such a thing does not exist, but i sure can't
find one. anybody know where there is a mailer or add-on that does
this?

thanks!
