After a day of westling, I found that gcc-3.2.1 can compile gcc-2.3.3
with an upgrade of kernel to 2.4.29 first. THe glibc-2.3.3 could be
compiled and installed without error.
But after installing the new glihc,
1. `rpm -i package` will produce "segmentation fault"
2. checkinstall-1.5.2's installwatch could no longer work
That means I have no justfication to upgrade the glibc on the COL 3.1.
I guess it's better for me to count on a newer distribution that uses
newer version of everything.
