Is your PCMCIA subsystem starting? (rcpcmcia status)
Is it set to start at boot? (chkconfig)
Here is an interesting read full of information on your choice of
Broadcom NICs:
http://www.gidforums.com/t-4390.html
I'm running PCMCIA all the time on SuSE 8.2, 9.1 and soon on 9.2. I use
Cisco 802.11b/ .11abg cards, Orinoco cards, DLink cards. No problem.
Yast always identifies them, sometimes even when I'd rather them not be
recognized. I would be looking a little deeper in the PCMCIA stack than
the cards.
If you are wondering about SuSE, download either Knoppix or
Ubuntu-LiveCD and see if they show up there. I'm not familiar with the
T23 Thinkpad. How old, what kind of proc? What does the following tool
output:
lspci
lspci -v
Here is the output from my Dell Latitude:

| I get no change in the '/var/log/messages' file and 'cardctl ident'
| reports no cards in either socket, yet I know the card works under
| windows 2000 pro.
|
| I guess my problem is that the system is not playing with PCMCIA. It
| says it is, but it is lying. Any suggestions? (Sticking with Windows
| is not a suggestion.)
