newbie network question

OK, this is the dumbest network question possible; please be very kind.
I connect to the internet via cable through an Apple Airport Extreme 
router/firewall/wifi/bridge/everything box ('why' is immaterial at this 
point).  The Airport is a bridge to a wireless network; I plug my linux 
box into the LAN port on the Airport.  I can also talk to the internet 
through this Airport using the wireless card on my Mac powerbook.
Now I want to be able to access the linux box from the Mac, via this 
Airport box.  Someone told me that I need to set up Samba on the linux 
box. 
Is this correct?  If so, I can read about it, but I first need to know 
if this is the right place to start.
