BestBuy was selling 120 GB Seagate drives for $40 (automatic rebate) two
weeks ago and OfficeMax has the 160 GB Seagate this week at about $60.
When I bought the 120 GB drive, I had a choice: the same drives are
manufactured in China, Thailand or Singapore. I picked out a Singapore
drive for no particular reason other than they have been assembling HD's
there longer.
I have three WD 80 GB Jumbo's in operation as well as a Seagate 80 GB.
Spinrite 6.0 reported no bad sectors on any of the WD drives but the
some bad sectors on the Seagate. I always run Spinrite on a new drive
before installing an OS to check it out and to let it reach operating
temperature first.
