Folks, I have a hda problem... Years ago I formatted it with Caldera
2.2, 2.3 or eD2.4?? I think the MBA is DrDos? Any way I can't get
win98 to install. The reason I need windoze is for the software for my
insulin pump/blood glucose meter. The hard drive is a Western Digital
8.4 Mb. I have a WD floppy with Data Life Guard that has a program to
fix the disk and reformat it. All I can do is get the c/h/s of the disk
which is different from the fdisk here.
The c/h/s from the Data Life Guard shows 16383 cylinders, 16 heads, and
63 sectors.
------------------------------------------------------
Disk /dev/hda: 8455 MB, 8455200768 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1027 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 1027 8249346 b W95 FAT32
when I do the expert option and run partion table I get this.
-----------------------------------
Expert command (m for help): p
Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 1027 cylinders
Nr AF Hd Sec Cyl Hd Sec Cyl Start Size ID
1 80 1 1 0 254 63 1023 63 16498692 0b
2 00 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 00
3 00 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 00
4 00 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 00
Why is the hd setting 254 and the cylinder setting 1023 when the WD
floppy tells me 16 heads and 1027 cylinders? This is an enigma for me!!
Should I run the fdisk, x option, then the (c change number of
cylinders) option to start at 1 and end at 16383? to get my hard drive
set correctly? Also when I boot the win98 install cd it tells me to set
the BIOS to LBA. figgered this out with all of my older motherboards,
but this is an Intel 865 PERL and I'll be damned if I can locate that
option.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Bob
