This is really bothering me...

Water distillation on large scale is very expensive... but it works. My dad
ran the water purification plant for the military on the Bermuda island. It
supplied the entire island and the military interest without so much as a
burp. In fact, when the process was cranked up to military levels during
rediness tests, there was so much excess fresh water they had to dump it into
the ocean. They literally made a river that flowed from the base into the
sea.

Surely, someone in OZ land could do the same?

>From my New Jersey perspective of the world, OZ has unlimited sun light and a
vast internal dessert. Can't sea water be pumped into the dessert and
distilled using sunlight? The condensed brine could be pumped back into the
ocean... The fresh water could go to saving the status quo of life.
