You can tell SUSE's YAST installer about it by going to the directory in
Konqueror. Right click over the directory name, and from the popup menu
select "Actions->Add directory as YAST source". In the openSUSE site
there is docs on this. It will add directories that contain additional
info Yast likes. It seems that there is a tools to make this additional
info from a directory of only RPMS. SUSE's reasoning for the additional
info is that if Yast had to parse every RPM it could take forever. Like
on a 4 GB DVD or a directory holding as much. From my experience it
seeme that the directories with this additional info (files like media.1
and the like) work best. But SUSE claims Yast will also add from
directories containing only RPMS, but thinks like contnet summaries and
automatically installing dependent RPMS may not happen. So, they suggest
you use the tool to make the additional info Yast likes.
