I've compared TightVNC and RDP side-by-side with NX. NX was noticeably 
faster. Surprised the heck out of me. There were occasionally issues 
with the screen not looking exactly right but the NoMachine folks were 
aware of it and working on fixes (the new version now out was supposed 
to fix many of these).

The one real problem I have with NX is that for it to work you must have 
a full X installation on the server machine. None of my *servers* have X 
installed in any fashion and I don't want to change that.
