Local Firefox Builds Run Faster?

Back during the 0.9x days, I began to encounter some little mysteries
with the -bin builds, so now I build from source (gentoo ebuild, of
course). I never noticed any big difference in speed, but the
"weirdities" disappeared.

FWIW, my standard C/CXX flags settings are 

CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer"
