default stack size

Greetings, 
Does anyone know how to find the default stack size when creating a
thread? 

The java documentation for the -Xss command line parameter states: 
with Linux Intel and Windows it is whatever the default stack size is
when creating a thread in the OS. 

RedHat Linux ES 3.0. 
Any help is appreciated.
