As you can see from my signature block, I'm sending from Libranet 2.8
(with an updated kernel).
Since I don't network or run a server, I just need a solid capable
desktop. I do have Libranet 2.8.1 on another system, and just did a
kernel upgrade to 2.4.27. Libranet makes kernel upgrades simple and
fool-proof; you can do it from the Libranet adminmenu with a couple of
key strokes. I only have dial-up, so I don't use apt-get very much.
BTW Ken posted an excellent kernel upgrade how-to on the Libranet forum
some time ago, and I have used it uneventfully on numerous occasions.
Libranet automatically updates GRUB, so if your recompile for some
reason won't work, just reboot and select the previous kernel which is
still listed.
Take a look at the Libranet support data base http://libranet.com/support/
and the forum. That will give you a good overview of Libranet.
