I can attest to that too. I have a 13 year old HP 520 squirter that is
now relegated to an old system I use very rarely.
It works even if the last use was 6 months (or more) previously. Same
for my HP 870 and 855 squirters.
BTW if you find a serviceable 855 at a garage sale, grab it.
