I've had problems with non-laser HP on Linux (mine is on an Apple G4 now).
IHMO, the Linux support for Epson printers is far superior to HP. On the
other hand, the HP printer's design seems to be far superior for people who
don't use them much. The ink doesn't dry out even when they're not used
for extended periods. My HP PhotoSmart tends to sit for a month or more
between print jobs, and that never seems to cause problems (most of my
printing is on a networked 9 year old LaserJet 4M+).

Instead of giving money to found colleges to promote learning, why don't
they pass a constitutional amendment prohibiting anybody from learning
anything? If it works as good as the Prohibition one did, why, in five
years we would have the smartest race of people on earth.
