There's a very positive article about MEPIS on Linux Today.

Unfortunately, the author concentrates on trivia (from my standpoint)
like playing DVDs and integrating Windows software, and there's
precious little about actual upgrades and the effect on the system
afterwards.
I have to agree with Michael. Every time I read an article about
Linspire, I begin to suspect that I've just stepped in something
unpleasant and malodorous.
That being said, maybe it's just that I'm addicted to the "install
from source" methodology. 99% of the problems I've encountered with
"if it moves, compile it" are detected during the compile process
(which goes on in the background while I'm doing something I enjoy).
Since the failing components (mostly) never get installed, my system
remains quite stable, even though it's based on rather bleeding edge
components. I don't think you can achieve the same thing with a Debian
unstable or stable/unstable mix, because you don't find out about
potential incompatibilities among the binaries until they're in your
system.
Enjoy your Linspire.
