Try looking at the www.tldp.org for undeleting. I I had a similar
experience a couple of years ago. I wiped my whole home directory. With
the info from tldp and some more I found googling for "linux undelete" I
believe, I managed to get less than 50% of my files back. Sorry I
can't be more specific with the sites, that was a long time and many
beers ago. :-)
It was a long and arduous task and the recovery rate of files really is
dependent on how soon you shutdown the computer after the deletion. I
had found after googling for an hour or so that you really need to take
the pc down right away when that happens or inodes start getting
recycled.
