Perhaps post the output of `make oldconfig' doesn't that give a Redhat 
.config or the kernel has that new /proc/config thing that has the 
entire config stored in a gz? That may give Ben a way of looking for the 
missing cd coaster making link?

This is from a fc2 box of mine however it's on a box I've never burnt a 
cd from and the kernel is from some apt repository I don't know where
