KDE 3.2/3.3 and SUSE 9.0

I have been toying with updating the stock KDE 3.1 on SUSE 9.0 to KDE
3.3, using the RPMs on the SUSE site. Has anyone here done this? Do you
loose the various bits that SUSE add to the original product? Is there
no way to point YAST at the SUSE site and have it install the updates?
There are many many RPMs here...

My google searches on this seem to be very uninformative. And the SUSE
site just says: here they are. I see nothing telling  what may be lost
in doing this upgrade, or what needs to be installed.

I came across an odd apt-based suggestion to updating the KDE on SUSE. I
am not sure I want to go there.
