I've been using Tyan for servers and Asus for workstations. This one is a
Tyan S2882G3NR ( a dual socket 940 board but I'm using only a single Opteron
240), 1GB of RAM & 4 160GB SATA drives. (I don't remember, off the top of my
head, what the maximum is, but it's a lot more than 1GB.)

I used the Debian From Scratch method described in the howto and had only two
problems. For some reason hotplug was not recognizing the imbedded network
interfaces during the boot-up, but that was fixed easily. It took a little
longer for me to get the SATA drives working, but they're working just fine,
now. (Again, I can't remember the details, but I think moving to the 2.6.x
kernel solved the problem.)
