i *knew* something like this would happen . . .
situation: nifty sony lcd monitor, 1920x1200. has multiple inputs --
choice of analog or dvi for each of two inputs, individually
selectable. ati radeon 9000 card, has both analog and digital outputs;
with provided analog-digital adapter, digital output can be used as a
second head. according to all xfree docs i can find, digital output is
automagically the first monitor, analog the second. monitor therefore
set up with digital, via dvi cable, as first input, analog as second.
the "two monitors" are set to clone, meaning show the same thing.
before starting xfree, both inputs work, with the digital *much*
sharper, even in plain old text mode. but when i start x, the analog
side comes up just fine, 1920x1200, no apparent problem. however, the
digital side goes blank, and when i hit the monitor's menu button to
see what's going on, it informs me that it is at 1772x1200 @ 0 hz.
i've done what i think is a fairly extensive search and have come up
with nothing much useful. the problem is confounded by the fact that
1920x1200 is not among xfree's standard modes, so this involves a
little hacking anyway.
anybody have and suggestions or guesses?
thanks!

"revolutionise" from a transitive to an intransitive verb.
