By any chance are uyou using an add-on IDE controller?
I have a similar box: Compaq Presario (AMD k6-III+) in which I use a
Promise PCI IDE card.
I've had some problems with some Linuces that are confused by the drive
identification, i.e. the mbr is on /dev/hde.
I use Libranet 2.8.1 and let its GRUB chainload everything SuSE 9.1, but I
had to use a kernel line with parameters for an older Libranet (1.9.1)
which boots with LILO. It would not chainload.
BTW: re Pat Volkerding's message: my friend the pulmonologist read his
report and has contacted Pat privately.
