Certification, dear lad. Certification:

names and click on the Practical)

In all reality, I've not been paying very close attention as of late
because my job changed and I've been helping 6 other gentlemen build a
new IT Security Services department, basically from the ground up. My
eyes glaze over by the end of the day between Bugtraq, ISC.sans.org, and
all the projects we're working on. That and the night job are taking
all the time I've got.

Honestly, it was this list that taught me Linux from soup to nuts.
(Caldera-roots included) It also taught me how to show and earn respect
among mental/techno-giants. It taught me about purpose and being "that
guy" who made solutions happen. It taught me about great journalism :)
and books, and the people who wrote them.

I am now in the final stages of pilotting a Linux-based all-in-one SMB
office appliance, providing Web, Email/SPAM/AntiVirus, File and Print,
Firewall, Shared Internet, DHCP, DNS, and several undocumented,
pseudo-supported features. Primarily things just work. Right now I'm
finishing up documentation and revamping the Live-Drive Backup system,
adding an Offsite Backup capability using a USB-attached hard drive.

Teaching myself Perl, maintaining business at night, Keeping the day-job
(Security), and being a Dad/Husband. That's a lot to juggle, and it's
kept me away (aside from the General-List's Campaign threads of course).
Don't think it doesn't mean I'm here and thinking fondly of this list.

Sincerely,
Matthew Carpenter
