xscreensaver and xorg problems

Not necessarily. xscreensaver-demo is usually linked to libgtk:

$ ldd /usr/X11R6/bin/xscreensaver-demo | grep -i gtk
        libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 (0xb7d06000)
