David Bandel hit this straight on. There is a lot of material available
about this on the 'Net.
I'm not a DBA but I've been learning PostgreSQL lately and find little
to dislike about it. It does what it says and does it well.
Documentation is excellent including the tutorials. And the new 8.0
version which should hit RC1 status in the next week or two looks superb
- it now runs native on W32 which is a big advantage (unfortunately) for
some of us.
Firebird shows a lot of promise also but, IMHO, it is a very young
project and is still in the "bears watching" category.
