I'll say it just one more time:
YOU HAVE TO SET THE DISPLAY ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE!
export DISPLAY=:0 or export DISPLAY=LOCALHOST:0.0
one of the above will work.
sux is a SUSEism (shell script?) that probably sets your display
environment variable for you.
