Here's some more information on the RCA Lyra RD1071 and it's smaller
sibling, the RD1021. Just in case someone can't get them to work right.
---------- Forwarded Message ----------
I picked up a RD1071 in Walmart for myself and found it to be just as useable
as you (Jerry M.) said it would be.....
Just plop the mp3's onto the mounted device and off you go....
And being the nice guy that I am, I later bought an RD1021 (64M) for my
wife.... and then the trouble began....
These two things are like two different devices!!!
The first thing I noticed was that the info on the 21 was garbage... no
titles at all. So I discovered that:
21 - You must encode the songs with imbedded comments with title, album,
artist, etc and do it properly in order to get anything useful on the LCD.
Otherwise you will get a 'filename' that looks like a Winders filename - -
something like RD0345~1.mp3 which doesn't tell you much.
71 - Just having an MP3 with a useable filename will at least get you the
filename on the LCD.
Then I bought a couple of SD cards.... and found out what you did but
something even different.
21- mounts as two scsi devices, not two LUNs. Such as:
/dev/sdd1
/dev/sde1 (I have scsi hard drives so a,b,c are taken already)
71- treats the SD and memory as two LUNs.... so I had to recompile like you
did. (but now my card rdr is also picked up nicely..... so the 71 comes in
as:
/dev/sdg1
/dev/sdh1
Just for your information, in case you ever pick up a 21... (which was $49.95
at Walmart which is $30 off the 71 price)
