To a degree i agree with that.  the problem is that every 'release' of
wine changes things so its always a moving target.  on top of that, every
wine release behaves differently on different linux distros.

that's good advice if you have the $$ and xover actually can run what you
need it to.  My understanding is that xover is trweaked to run specific
windoze apps really well, and others not at all.
