Hard disk backup using dd

THat is irrelevant.  Only the drivers know about or care about the
hardware.  We're talking about data here which is irrelevant.  An ISO
image is nothing but a filesystem image in a file.  Whether you burn it to
CD, or mount it as loop back, its still the same data as far as the OS is
concerned.
