Multiple crontab files

I was wanting a way to get a list of everything cron has scheduled to 
run (systemwide and for all users). Sounds like the answer is that it is 
a combo of everything in /var/spool/cron and /etc/crontab.

Before that I wanted to be certain that giving the root user its own 
crontab wouldn't override the systemwide crontab (/etc/crontab).
