Simple rule of thumb: Use non-lossy format for non-photographic images
(e.g., diagrams, line art). Otherwise you get fuzzy lines. GIF/PNG is good
for this type of image. For photos, JPEG is still the best choice. The
effects of a lossy format like jpeg is not seen in photos, which is not
suprising as that is what jpeg was designed for. Non-photo images are most
effected by the wrong format.
